By successful, I mean profitable and fun. For me, it’s a sweet spot at the intersection of personal need and unmet market demand.
Since 2002, I’ve had a million ideas, and carefully executed a handful. Club nights, overseas festivals, creative studios, island resorts and hotels. Wax:On, Hideout, Obonjan, Beat Hotel are among the best.
Some things I’ve learned:
- Foster a culture that enables flourishing.
- Tell everyone about your product or service.
- Hire people that will constructively challenge your ideas.
- Take active recovery seriously.
- Act in imperfect or even harsh conditions (the conditions will never be perfect, at least not for long anyway).
